UNBOUND

Solo Traveler at the Lisbon Waterfront with 25 de Abril Bridge View

ABOUT PIYALI UNBOUND

PiyaliUnbound began as a way of paying attention — to landscapes that change slowly to places understood through staying, and to the interior shifts that travelling was producing in me quietly. It is not a record of everywhere I have been, but an attempt to understand what remains after movement ends.

Travel, for me, is less about arrival and more about perception.

I am drawn to variations and thresholds such as the plains lifting into foothills, coasts turning inward, cities revealing themselves through their routines’ rather than spectacle!  These journeys I have taken are often solitary, not for the sake of isolation, but for the clarity that comes from moving without distraction.

The writing here follows three overlapping terrains.

Landscapes of Transition explore environments shaped by movement and passage.

Lived-In Places focus on spaces understood through repetition and everyday life.

Time, Ritual, and Memory traces continuity — the ways places hold meaning beyond the present moment. Alongside these runs another thread: the interior terrain of travel — fear, solitude, endurance, and the quiet recalibration that follows.

I am interested in what becomes visible after the first impressions fade: the works that structures days, the pauses between events, the details that rarely appear in itineraries. Writing usually happens later, once distance has clarified what mattered.

You won’t find recommendations, checklists, or lists of must-see sights here. This is not a guide to travel better, but a space for considering how travel changes attention, pace, and understanding.

I’m Piyali, based in India, travelling independently and writing as a way of making sense of what stays with me. If these pages resonate, you are welcome to move through them slowly — the way the journeys themselves unfolded.
