Paithani weaves – Close looks

What goes on to make the famous 'Paithani' sarees of Maharasthra ?

There are two types of famous hand crafted designs in state of Maharasthra . The Paithani silk we are familiar with ! However recently saw and learnt about the ‘himroo’ sarees …which actually takes more time than Paithani sarees!

Himroo sarees are made by hand completely , using the wall motifs of Ajantha.

A complex network of countless threads on a equally complicated handicraft machine …being worked upon by quick fingers of both hands by men and women ……amazing site!

No wonder these sarees which takes somewhere between 4 to 21 days to make are expensive!.

There are bunch of pre formatted blocks appearing on the top of the loom , against which the silk threads goes weaving upon by hand . On the picture in the opposite side of the fabric….the real motifs comes on the underside !
